Nigerian oil workers
Nigeria and it's people live in extreme poverty already as 70% of people in the Niger Delta live earning the equivlent of $1 a day. When the oil companies cam along one would have assumed finding work would be easy. However many individules are not hired due to discrimination and most local men will only get temporary employment, and when individules do get employed they develope frequent spending habits thinking they will earn money easier when such is not the case. Also as government officials receive money from the oil drillling they do not fund their people allowing them to not have access to running water, electricity, medical clinics, etc. One example of how oil has impacted the economic situation of the people of the Niger Delta was when a man named Efanga Eelali lost his fish farm (his primary source of income) to an oil spill.
